"When I was going to international school, we had a ranking system. The more countries someone had lived in before coming to the school, the more 'been around' they were considered. Cute, right? Having lived in three or four countries was very common; we saw six or seven sometimes, and then we saw someone who had lived in ten—she was top tier.
We all live in a bubble, sure. Bubbles burst, or we leave them intentionally, but our muscle and brain memories follow us. It’s been seven years since my dad passed away, and I still fly first class. If a certain airline carrier isn't there, I don’t travel there. Quite pampered, right?
The daughter of a diplomat, having a special passport and using separate airport immigration, speaking five languages, having a fortune from a very young age—will that really make my life easy or desirable? Sure, I don’t have certain worries. I don’t buy property; I pay rent five years upfront because that’s easier for me. Less paperwork is my priority.
But I’ve buried two family members, including my brother, in two years—and I might have to again soon. Does this make my life entirely miserbale?
Is this a cute little whine, or a serious, valid struggle? Jason, you’ve seen enough of me, haven't you?"
