A little snow

”Jason, it’s not just New York—Rhode Island and Massachusetts too.” I saw the news and called my friend living in a northeastern state.

“But you know me, Jason, I only see the good side. The whole city is on lockdown, a bit like Covid times, but all the kids are playing in the snow and everyone is out here clearing the snow. And we are all helping the old folks' houses too. Yeah, it sucks to see this much snow, but what are you going to do? We are East Coasters and we deal with it. And especially Bostonians? We try to help out in difficult times.”

I can smell the thick snow and hot, dark black coffee through the phone.

“You see, if you want to see the bad side, you will only see the bad side. But when you don’t, life will show you the bright side. And don’t be a fool and ignore all the bad signals in your life. I’m not saying you should live life like a kindergartner. But you’re smart, you know what I mean. Don’t let a little snow bring you down.”

Yeah, I think I know what she meant.
