Work and Pause

Jason, it doesn’t seem like a business anymore, which worries me a little. I honestly think you might need to draw a line at some point.

It feels natural to me,J. I mean… it doesn’t bother me, and it doesn’t require too much energy. Once you enjoy the flow, it doesn't feel like "work." It stops being just a means of making a living and becomes part of life, organically. I think that is what a job should be, something that organically becomes a part of one's life, not just something you have to do.

Running any business is challenging, and running a tea room is no different. But I am absolutely happy about it. I start the day, do the work that needs to be done, and I leave. On the way home, I do some more work on the bus. It is mostly a review and reflection of the work I’ve done that day.

Do you think this will be your work for the rest of your life?

No, J, I am leaving it at one clear point. This is not going to be my last project.

Then why... so hard on it?

Because, J, because it is the work I am doing these days. I just take care of the things that need to be taken care of. That is what I’ve been doing since I was 20. It’s a work, a job.

I don’t know, Jason. Try to take a pause.

I do, J. I do. It’s like life. You long for happiness and it never seems to come, but in between all the drama, you have those brief seconds of sweet, happy moments. Having a pause, a break, or a vacation is like that to me. It comes and goes, so I am always having that pause.

Do you know why I keep this journal? Do you think this will attract more business? Do you think people actually read this? It is a record for that one person and in that way, it becomes a pause for me.

Are you that one person reading this now?
